release Award-winning filmmaker visits Tucson for preview of groundbreaking series on Native American history “American Experience: WE SHALL REMAIN” Co-producer Julianna Brannum to speak at special preview event

TUCSON, Ariz. (March 9, 2009) -- The University of Arizona’s Hanson Film Institute and Arizona Public Media present a special sneak preview in advance of the American Experience/PBS national broadcast of WE SHALL REMAIN, a groundbreaking mini-series spanning 300 years to tell the story of pivotal moments in U.S. history from the Native American perspective.

The special advance preview of WE SHALL REMAIN includes an appearance by series Co-Producer Julianna Brannum. The event is Monday, April 6 at 5:30 p.m. at the Center for Creative Photography on the University of Arizona campus. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with the presentation starting at 6 p.m. This special event is free and open to the public – seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. Paid public parking is available at the Park Avenue Garage, on the Northeast corner of Speedway Blvd. and Park Ave., with the entrance on Park Ave. The sneak preview event will include segments of WE SHALL REMAIN which have not yet been broadcast.

Julianna Brannum's first feature documentary, "The Creek Runs Red" aired on PBS's Independent Lens in 2007 and was awarded Best Documentary at the San Diego Film Festival. Brannum was selected as a Sundance Institute/Ford Foundation Fellow in 2007, and she also received a fellowship from the Rockefeller Foundation/Tribeca Film Institute for her documentary currently in production, “LaDonna Harris: Indian 101.” She has also worked on television programs for A&E, Discovery Channel and LTN Los Angeles. Brannum is a member of the Quahada band of the Comanche Nation.

The American Experience: WE SHALL REMAIN miniseries begins Monday, April 13 at 9 p.m. on KUAT6 and KUAT-HD. The event is part of the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of KUAT broadcasting quality television programming in Southern Arizona.
