Bohdan Zachary oversees all aspects of AZPM’s original content production. An award- winning executive with a diverse career spanning journalism, television and film production, and public media roles, he most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Milwaukee PBS, where he led the station to become one of the most-watched PBS stations in the country. Prior to this, Bohdan served as Senior Vice President of Broadcasting, Programming, and Syndication at KCET PBS in Los Angeles.
Before transitioning to public media, Bohdan had a successful career in commercial television and film. He contributed to WNBC-TV's innovative "Live at Five" daily newscast and produced Fox Network's top-rated docudrama "The Haunted." His talent also caught the attention of Cher, who appointed him as Executive Vice President of her film development company. As a journalist, Bohdan gained recognition for his investigative work, including an exposé on Hollywood's methamphetamine epidemic.
Bohdan’s leadership in public media earned him the 2019 National Advocacy Award from America's Public Television Stations (APTS) for spearheading Milwaukee PBS's post-spectrum-auction consumer campaign. Bohdan also presented testimony before the House and Energy Committee and the Federal Communications Commission regarding Milwaukee PBS's successful efforts. Bohdan has served on public media advisory panels, including the editorial selection committee for the POV documentary series.
Throughout his career, Bohdan has demonstrated a strong commitment to the transformative power of public media and its mission to improve lives. He credits public television for helping him and his Ukrainian immigrant family develop proficiency in English, underscoring the personal impact of his chosen field.
In recognition of his career achievements and contributions to the community, Bohdan was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Lakeland University in 2023.
