In 1994, Steve Bayless joined what was then KUAT-TV as Senior Editor. He has worked on many award-winning programs including The Desert Speaks series, helping it win its many accolades including a Rocky Mountain Emmy Award for his efforts on the post-production sound design. His other accomplishments at the station include another Emmy for editing achievements as well as other PBS awards and recognition. In 2008 he was promoted to Post-Production Supervisor tohelp oversee the change to a full digital workflow at the station. That completed, he decided to resume his role as Senior Editor in 2012. His first project back in the editor’s chair was the hour-long documentary, “Together We Heal” which explored the aftermath of the January 8th shootings in Tucson a year later. “That project”, Steve says, “was the most challenging and gratifying project I have ever worked on. It epitomizes what we all strive for. Storytelling with depth and heart.”
Outside of AZPM, Steve works as an independent filmmaker and has collaborated with other talented Tucson locals to produce many award winning short films. Steve wrote, produced and edited the shorts “Not 2B Toyed With” and “silent RED”, which have been seen around the world.
Steve also teaches other aspiring editors at Pima Community College and holds a Bachelor's degree in Media Arts from the University of Arizona.
