Hopi Heritage in Tucson

Colorful quilts part of history, culture

Arizona is home to 21 federally recognized Native American nations and this gives residents an opportunity to become more familiar with the state's first inhabitants.

Arizona State Museum offers various programs and events that increase our knowledge and understanding about that state's ethnic groups, and two days in September will offer another chance for people to learn in person.

On Friday and Saturday, the focus will be on Hopi quilts, which can be traced to historic contacts with missionaries.

Activities at the event will include exhibits, a workshop, a quilt show and sale and hands-on learning.

The event will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

The museum is on University Boulevard just inside the University of Arizona Main gate, east of Park Avenue.
