Landwhale: Jes Baker Spreads Message of Body Liberation

  • Jes Baker is better known on social media as "The Militant Baker", where she is nationally recognized for her frank, funny and unflinching advocacy on the subjects of body positivity and fat acceptance. Mark talks with Baker about her new book Landwhale: On Turning Insults into Nicknames, Why Body Image is Hard, and How Diets Can Kiss My Ass, a memoir about growing up — and finding happiness — while also being fat. Jes Baker is having a book release party on Tuesday, May 8 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at Exo Roast Coffee, located at 403 N. 6th Avenue in Tucson.


  • And, in advance of this weekend's 33rd annual Tucson Folk Festival, hear a session of original songs from The Arnold / Klingenfus Ensemble, including Dick Arnold, Jim Klingenfus and Bob Beleden. They have been playing together since the 1980s and have seen many changes across their three decades of history with the Folk Festival. The Tucson Kitchen Musicians Association presents the 2018 Tucson Folk Festival, beginning at noon on Saturday, and continuing until 9 p.m. on Sunday on the west side of downtown Tucson.
