Arizona National Guard adjutant general to retire in April

Maj. Gen.. Michael T. McGuire will retire in April as adjutant general of the Arizona National Guard after 34 years in the military. McGuire became the state’s top military officer in 2013.

Gov. Doug Ducey said Friday that McGuire planned to retire last year but stayed on because of the pandemic.

Ducey credited McGuire with providing solid leadership and expertise as National Guard personnel performed a number of roles, including helping operate vaccination sites and transporting medical supplies.

Ducey will appoint McGuire’s successor.
