Danyelle Khmara was most recently the award-winning Border Reporter for the Arizona Daily Star. As a bilingual reporter, she has written on border-related topics that include the economy, crime, humanitarian issues, the environment, culture, and art. Before becoming the border reporter, Danyelle covered K-12 education in Southern Arizona for the Daily Star, and before that, she was Associate Editor and News Reporter at the Tucson Weekly. She has won numerous awards for her investigative, watchdog, and data reporting. Danyelle graduated from the University of Arizona School of Journalism in 2017, but her interest in immigration and the border began when she lived in Southern Mexico, about 15 years ago.
When Danyelle is not reporting, she can be found hanging out with her 17-year-old son, with whom she practices the Brazilian martial art Capoeira. She also plays guitar, dances salsa and bachata, and enjoys the lovely Tucson outdoors.
