Katya Mendoza (she/her/ella) joined Arizona Public Media in early 2023. She is a recent graduate from the master’s program in journalism from the University of Arizona, with a specialization in global journalism. She comes to AZPM from Tucson Local Media where she worked as a general assignment staff writer and recent recipient of the 2021 Arizona Press Club Community Nina Mason Pulliam Environmental Journalism Award for reporting on an irregular ‘side bloom’ phenomenon affecting saguaros in the Sonoran Desert.

When Katya isn’t reporting, you might find her curled up with a good book, jamming out to music or exploring with her friends.
