Arizona Public Media (AZPM) is proud to announce the success of its latest community event, Thriving in the Desert: Sustainable Landscaping for Southern Arizona, held on Saturday, April 19 at the University of Arizona’s Environment and Natural Resources 2 Building (ENR2).

This free screening and discussion, hosted by Arizona Illustrated producer/reporter Tony Paniagua drew an enthusiastic audience of nearly 350 people eager to explore the region’s unique plant life and learn how to cultivate a flourishing, eco-friendly garden in the desert climate. The event featured specially curated segments from Arizona Illustrated, followed by a dynamic Q&A with a panel of local experts dedicated to sustainable practices and desert biodiversity, including:

  • Jack Dash, Gardens Manager, Tohono Chul

  • Tony Figueroa, Invasive Plant Program Manager, Tucson Bird Alliance

  • Brad Lancaster, Permaculture Expert and Author of Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond

“We’re thrilled with the turnout for this Arizona Illustrated live discussion. Thank you to the attendees, partners, and panelists for making the event a memorable and educational experience,” said Gary Bell, AZPM Director of Marketing and Communications. “We look forward to hosting many future Arizona Illustrated Live discussions in the community, covering an array of topics.”

Arizona Illustrated airs Sundays at 6:30 p.m. on PBS 6. Full episodes are available on the PBS App, or watch segments on azpm.org.
