Tucson, Ariz. - September 23, 2013 – Arizona Public Media presents the seven-hour broadcast and outreach event, “American Graduate Day 2013,” on September 28, 2013 on PBS 6, WORLD and the UA Channel. This “call-to-action” telethon based from WNET’s Tisch Studios at Lincoln Center in New York City, profiles more than 20 national community partners, and includes a locally produced introduction by University of Arizona President Ann Weaver Hart, and 14 interview segments featuring Southern Arizona educators, education administrators, and community partners.
On the UA Channel the broadcast will be live from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Comcast 76, Cox 116) On PBS 6 - 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (Broadcast 6-1 and 27-1, Comcast 220, Cox 2006, DirecTV 6, Dish 6) On WORLD – 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. (Broadcast 27-3, Comcast 203, Cox 83)
American Graduate Day is the centerpiece of “American Graduate: Let’s Make It Happen,” a national public media initiative that leverages the power and reach of public television to help communities across America address the high school dropout crisis and keep students on the path to graduation.
Featuring a dynamic mix of national long-form programming, live breaks, and AZPM pre-taped segments, the entire program will tell the story of community partners and how they provide support, advice, and intervention services to at-risk students, families, and schools.
National celebrity hosts such as Juju Chang, Brian Williams, Susie Gharib, Rebecca Jarvis and other journalistic luminaries will serve as anchors throughout the broadcast.
