The Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) announced Monday that Arizona Public Media has received 34 individual Emmy® nominations for 17 projects across 14 categories, the most for a public media station in the region which includes Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming and El Centro, California.
Notable among the nominations this year is Gisela Telis for the Journalistic Enterprise award, which recognizes a significant body of work over the past 12 months. Telis has been reporting on mental health issues for AZPM since 2010. She is also nominated as co-producer of AZPM’s most recent documentary, Not Broken, which focuses on teen mental health.
For the third time in four years under the leadership of CEO Jack Gibson, AZPM has been nominated for Overall Excellence, having won previously in 2015. The award is given to a President/General Manager for excellence in overall station operations, local productions, and involvement in the community.
“We are delighted to be nominated in so many diverse categories and thrilled to be considered once again for the prestigious Overall Excellence award,” said Gibson. “I am proud of the work our talented staff puts in each day and it is very gratifying to see that work recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.”
Winners will be announced at a ceremony on September 22. For a full list of nominees in the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter go to rockymountainemmy.org.
