La Frontera with Pati Jinich wins James Beard Award for Best Docuseries

The James Beard Media Awards honor the nation’s top food authors, broadcast producers, hosts, journalists, podcasters, and social media content creators.

Season two of La Frontera, featuring Chef Pati Jinich in the southern border region of California, Arizona, and New Mexico, has won a James Beard Award for Best Docuseries.

Chef Jinich visited Tucson and parts of southern Arizona in 2022 to film at several locations for episodes showcasing life along the Arizona-Sonora border. Then returned the following year for a Borderlands Food & Film Event presented by Visit Tucson in partnership with AZPM, to promote her two acclaimed PBS shows, La Frontera and Pati’s Mexican Table.

The James Beard Broadcast Media Awards recognize non-fiction works in English covering food and beverage topics and appearing widely for the first time in the United States in 2023. These works are from digital and traditional media—radio, television broadcasts, podcasts, documentaries, online sites, and social media.

The award-winning second season of La Frontera is available to stream for free on the PBS App.
