March brings desert wildflowers, the Tucson Festival of Books, and one of AZPM’s most important on-air fundraising campaigns of the year. Viewer and listener support during the March campaign helps to offset the substantial expenses AZPM pays each fall, including PBS and NPR program fees and other recurring major operating expenses.
Providing top-notch educational programming and quality entertainment would simply not be possible without the support of community members who give during the spring radio and television campaigns. 100% of the program license fees paid to PBS, NPR, the BBC, and other program distributors is funded by viewers and listeners like you. In addition, the amount of community support AZPM receives determines the amount of Community Service Grant funding that the Corporation for Public Broadcasting awards to AZPM each year. That funding is what makes possible the production of original local programs like ARIZONA ILLUSTRATED, THE BUZZ, and AZPM NEWS DAILY. So you see, your support has a two-fold impact. If you have already given or are already a sustaining member, thank you! If you haven’t, there’s still time; please visit azpm.org/donate.

March is also Women’s History Month, commemorating women who have shaped history, arts, culture, politics, science, medicine, and other fields. AZPM honors groundbreaking women with special programs on PBS 6, including the premiere of Season 2 of MARIE ANTOINETTE Sunday, March 23 at 9 p.m., and the premiere of CORONATION GIRLS on Sunday, March 30 at 10 p.m. In the summer of 1953, philanthropist Garfield Weston put together a sponsorship to send 50 girls from rural communities across Canada to London to witness the coronation procession of Queen Elizabeth II, an event that transformed them instantly and forever. The elements of character they saw in her, a young woman so close in age to themselves who took on the weight of the Crown, inspired them and shaped a way of being that has guided their lives. Finally, the beloved series CALL THE MIDWIFE returns for its 14th season on Sunday, March 30 at 7 p.m. with all new episodes set in a brand-new decade.

Finally, some of AZPM’s viewers and listeners have expressed their concern about the state of federal funding for your public media organization. We share in their concern. Please visit protectmypublicmedia.org to sign up for alerts and to keep informed about the status of the federal investment in public media this year, and beyond.
AZPM is able to offer top-quality educational television, radio, and digital programming because of your continued support. Thank you for your membership and your ongoing investment in AZPM and in our community.
Sincerely,
Jack Gibson
