Kicking off its 60th Anniversary celebration at the 11th Annual Tucson Festival of Books, Arizona Public Media showcased a variety of activities and resources for the community.
This year, visitors had an opportunity to become members, spin the prize wheel, participate in docent-led station tours, meet their favorite PBS 6, NPR 89.1, and Classical 90.5 hosts and take pictures with PBS Kids characters, including Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George, and Pinkalicious. For the third year, in partnership with Tucson Pima Public Libraries, AZPM hosted a group of teens from Tucson schools in the studio to conduct radio interviews with visiting authors.
And on Saturday evening, AZPM and the University of Arizona Poetry Center hosted guests at a reception honoring the New York Times best-selling author and poet Kwame Alexander. Mr. Alexander is one of the country's most innovative children's book authors, a Newbery Award winner, and regular contributor to NPR's Morning Edition. Also present at the event was musician Randy Preston who has written original songs for Kwame Alexander's novels in verse, REBOUND and SOLO.
