AZ WEEK: American Journalists Abroad Face Increasing Peril

Parents of slain freelancer James Foley, former hostage Terry Anderson discuss dangers.

Journalists from around the world say they face increasing dangers in war zones, especially the ISIS-controlled areas in Syria and Iraq. Arizona Week looks at the situation in interviews with journalists and the parents of a slain freelancer, who were in Tucson for a panel discussion on the issues.

Interviews include:

  • John and Diane Foley, parents of freelancer James Foley, who was beheaded six months ago in Syria.

  • Terry Anderson, a former Associated Press correspondent who was held hostage by Hezbollah in Lebanon for seven years.

  • New York Times lawyer David McCraw, who works to help journalists with legal and other issues.
