The federal government is giving Arizona and tribes $30,937,243 to help low-income families afford their energy bills this winter season.
Arizona tribes were awarded a total of $83,886, which was divided between three tribes. The Quechan tribe was awarded $25,718. The Cocopah Tribe was awarded $11,980. The Pascua Yaqui was awarded $46,188.
“As the ongoing effects of climate change make extreme weather more common, this funding is key to making sure Arizonans are ready and resilient,” Rep. Grijalva said.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Office of Community Services at the Administration for Children and Families announced the award of $3.7 billion to the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program. All 50 states, 125 tribes, three territories, and the District of Columbia will be funded.
The funding comes from a combination of regular appropriations by Congress, $2.5 billion from the Continuing Resolution, and $100 million from President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
