James Reel

AZPM's classical music director and weekday morning announcer, James Reel, has also served as the executive director of the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra; president of the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, Winding Road Theater, and Chamber Music Plus Southwest; and a board member of the Tucson Desert Song Festival.

Reel has a long history in the arts, having been a theater critic, arts editor, and general editor for the Tucson Weekly, and arts and entertainment editor and classical music critic at the Arizona Daily Star. He was formerly music editor of Fanfare magazine and contributing editor to Strings magazine. Those activities were bracketed by two stints at AZPM, the first an 11-year run beginning when he was a college freshman, and the second starting when he eased back into announcing in 2004.

Reel is the author of The Timid Soul's Guide to Classical Music and the guidebook CitySmart: Tucson.
