Yvonne Creanga

One of Classical 90.5’s weekend on-call announcers, Romanian-born violist Yvonne Creanga enjoys a varied career as a chamber musician, orchestral player, and teacher. Yvonne has been a member of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and recorded with the Santa Cecilia Chamber Orchestra for BMG. She has performed with the Festival dei Due Mondi in Charleston, South Carolina and Spoleto, Italy, the Settimane Musicale Senese, Siena, Italy, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Cincinnati Symphony, Colorado Symphony, American Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, New York City Opera, New Jersey Symphony, and Alexander Schneider’s New York String Orchestra. She is currently a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.

For many years Yvonne was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of violin and chamber music at the University of Arizona’s Fred Fox School of Music. She has held teaching posts at the University of California, Irvine, Vanguard University, Yale University, and as summer faculty of Ameropa, a chamber music festival and academy in Prague, Czech Republic, and Interlochen Arts Summer Camp in Michigan.

Yvonne studied at the Yale School of Music and the University of Michigan and received diplomas in chamber music performance from the Conservatoire Américain and L’Accademia Chigiana. She has lived in Tucson since 2000 and is married to Thomas Cockrell, director of orchestral activities at UA’s Fred Fox School of Music. They have two creative young adult children.
